»Beautiful Beast 9 Dancers Sidra Bell's anthemic full length looks at aspects of beauty both extravagant and violent as well as the masculine gaze. Bell examines the framing of the female form and the brutality of its imaging in contemporary culture. This fantastical work takes viewers through a dreamscape of personas that are simultaneously glamorous, destroyed, endangered, grotesque, and heroic. Bell used words as the driving force from which the performers' fantasies departed. The audience is led into a world of jockeys, ring leaders, cigarette ads, sad clowns, detached omniscient symbols, conjoined twins and many more. The landscape is a house of mirrors, a house of horrors and a house of cards falling down. BEAUTIFUL BEAST (2010) Dancers: Jenelle Figgins, Samantha Figgins, Leslie Hubilla, Alexandra Johnson, Moo Kim, Caroline Kirkpatrick, Anila Mazhari, Rebecca Margolick, Amber Morgan, Troy Ogilvie, Amber Lee Parker, Maud de la Purification, Gilbert Small Copyright 2010 SBDNY, Inc., All Rights Reserved |

»REVUE 6 Dancers The thirteen sketches of REVUE range in mood from ribald and humorous to melancholic and haunting. The seed of the idea for REVUE began at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theatre in January 2010, largely inspired by the theatre's walls and old grandeur. The work draws its imagery from the idea that all the world is a stage. The dancers acknowledge the gaze of the audience while creating their own world of mystery. Choreography by Sidra Bell (2010) Dancers: Jonathan Campbell, Leslie Hubilla, Alexandra Johnson, Moo Kim, Caroline Kirkpatrick, Maud de la Purification Copyright 2010 SBDNY, Inc., All Rights Reserved |
